Prediction markets without crypto

Prediction markets are an old idea. Putting them on a blockchain is a recent one, adopted largely because it routed around the difficulty of operating a real-money market under financial regulation — not because probabilities need a distributed ledger.

The consequence is that a lot of people who find the concept genuinely interesting bounce off the first step: install a wallet, secure a seed phrase, acquire a stablecoin, bridge it to the right network. That is a substantial amount of work before you have made a single forecast.

Real money, no crypto

Regulated event exchanges settle in conventional currency through ordinary payment rails. Kalshi operates this way in the US. You get real financial exposure with no wallet and no blockchain, at the cost of identity verification and jurisdictional limits — the tradeoff regulation always involves. Availability rules in this area move quickly, so check the current position yourself rather than relying on any static page.

No money at all

If what drew you in was the format rather than the financial exposure, the crypto question disappears entirely. There is nothing to custody, so there is no wallet.

What you lose is the ability to profit from being right. Whether that matters depends entirely on why you were interested in the first place.
