What this question means
The monthly companion to the annual inflation question on this board, and the shapes are worth comparing.
Here: 0.4% at 52%, 0.3% at 37%, 0.5% or above at 13%, 0.2% at 5%. The annual figure is priced across 3.3% to 3.5% with similar concentration.
Monthly prints are noisier than annual ones by construction — a single month captures short-term movements that a twelve-month window averages away. That normally means a wider distribution, and the relative spread here does reflect it, with a meaningful open-ended bucket at the top.
Both questions resolve from the same release on the same day, which makes them a useful pair. They are not independent: a high monthly figure pushes the annual number up mechanically. Anyone forecasting one should check their view is consistent with the other, because the two markets have to agree about the underlying data even though they price different slices of it.
